Breath as an anchor, not an escape.
Most breath work is sold to us as a way to leave. To transcend, to calm down, to get out of the moment. This practice is the opposite: the breath as a way to stay.
Overwhelm is not a signal that something is wrong with you. It is a signal that your body has more information than it has room for. The breath is how we make room.
Box breath, softened
- 01Inhale through the nose for a count of four.
- 02Hold, gently, for four. Not braced. Just paused.
- 03Exhale through the mouth for six. Longer than the inhale. Always.
- 04Rest for two, empty. Then begin again.
Do this four times. That is it. If four feels like too many, do one. One honest breath is worth more than ten performed ones.
The exhale is where the nervous system learns it is safe to be here.
You did not escape the moment. You stayed. That is the practice.
